Recognizing Early Diagnosis by Medical Professionals
The Vasculitis Foundation is excited to announce its 2021 V-RED (Recognizing Excellence in Diagnostics) Program is now accepting nominations.
One of the greatest challenges a patient with vasculitis faces is receiving a definitive diagnosis. Patients can spend months or even years seeking a diagnosis or worse, living with a misdiagnosis and ineffective treatment. The VF also recognizes that there are many medical professionals who have MADE the diagnosis of vasculitis, and we want to honor them for their efforts to care for our patients.
The idea for the V-RED Award originated with retired VF Board Member, Karen Hirsch, whose son, Michael, was diagnosed with GPA/Wegener’s in 2011 by Juanita Mora, MD, an allergist/immunologist at the Chicago Allergy Center. Hirsh developed the V-RED Award to recognize and reward those doctors who made an early diagnosis of vasculitis in a patient.
Each year the VF solicits patients in the vasculitis community to nominate medical professionals who helped them get diagnosed. Now in its 8th year, the V-RED Program has recognized 100s of medical professionals nominated by patients from around the world.
Nominations will be accepted until March 7, 2021. The nominees and awardees will be announced in May during Vasculitis Awareness Month.
