Alex Schoppman is 13 and an eighth grader at Wentzville South Middle School. Alex’s dad, Mitch, was diagnosed with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA, formerly Wegener’s granulomatosis), when he was a teenager. GPA affected his intestines, sinuses, lungs, heart, and caused him general overall pain and fatigue. It decreased his quality of life to the point he could no longer work full time, had problems completing simple daily tasks, and missed out on much of Alex’s life. In July 2020, Mitch felt he could no longer deal with the life he was left with and the unending pain, and he took his own life.
Alex and his mom created a trivia night to raise money for the Vasculitis Foundation (VF) and help find a cure. Alex doesn’t want another child to live through what he, his dad, mom, and older sister have lived through. Your help is greatly needed so they can make an impact and help someone else avoid losing any quality of life due to these rare and potentially fatal diseases.
Doors open at 5 pm; trivia starts at 6 pm. Tables are available ($200 for eight people). Donations of items to be used for door prizes, raffles, and silent auctions are needed and any item is welcome. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
