ANCA-associated Vasculitis

An August 2020 article in Nature Reviews discusses the many aspects of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV)—a group of autoimmune diseases (granulomatosis with polyangiitis, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis, and microscopic polyangiitis) that causes blood vessels to swell. The vessels involved in AAV are typically capillaries, arterioles and venules but small arteries and veins may also be affected. AAVs are challenging and complex conditions but, with an integrated, collaborative approach that includes considerable patient involvement, great progress can be made in improving the lives of people with these diseases.
