Symposium 2013: Vasculitis and Our Young Patients

The Vasculitis Foundation is pleased to announce that Dr. Melissa Lerman, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Dr. Zeft, Cleveland Clinic Center for Vasculitis Care and Research, will lead the pediatric program at the 2013 Vasculitis Symposium. The program will begin on Friday afternoon, July 12th with a special session providing an overview of vasculitis in children and teen-agers. Dr. Lerman and Dr. Zeft will review the disease process, potential complications, cutting edge therapies and outcomes for our pediatric patients. In addition, attendees will discuss coping mechanisms; educational concerns and helping our younger patients live successfully with vasculitis.

There will be an informal group dinner on Friday evening prior to the Dessert Reception which will feature Celeste Lee, as the keynote speaker. Ms. Lee was diagnosed with vasculitis at the age of 17 and will share her experiences navigating life with vasculitis and her secret four-letter word:  HOPE:  Humor, Optimism, Partnership and Education.

The program will continue on Saturday with the “Lunch with the Doctors” session to provide time for follow-up from the morning sessions.

Throughout the weekend, there will be time for parents, guardians and the children and teen-agers to interact with each other and share their experiences and concerns.  In addition, patients who were diagnosed as children or teen-agers will be around to share their experiences and what they’ve learned.

The 2013 Vasculitis Symposium will be held at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, July 12-14. To learn more, click here.
