Jay’s Story
Jay O’Connor was my boyfriend and the love of my life. He passed away July 11, 2011. He was diagnosed with PAN in 2004. He faced many challenges after that including Bypass Surgery, Chemo, Brain Surgery, Seizures, Chronic Pancreatitis, many days filled with pain and fatigue. Jay faced these challenges with grace, courage and most important to him a sense of humor.
Jay was an avid motorcycle rider. He loved motorcycles and was able to buy his dream Harley right before he was diagnosed with PAN. His Harley was his pride and joy. If Jay was feeling good and the weather was nice you bet he would be out riding his Harley. Jay took me on my first Harley ride in 2008. I was hooked right away. I moved from California to Chicago in January of 2010 to be with Jay after two years of a long distance relationship.
Jay taught me so much about life and what was really important. He told me every day, Kerry we get up and do the best we can with what we have and when you start feeling overwhelmed take a deep breath and say to yourself where are my feet at this moment? I carry with me every day the wisdom Jay passed on to me.
This Fund-Raiser is in memory of Jay and also to raise awareness and money for PAN. A very rare disease that I feel needs more attention. No donation is too small.
Thank you for taking time to read Jay’s story. His friend Richie told me after Jay passed that Jay was the kind of guy you never forget. I wish everyone had a chance to know Jay.
