Cleveland-Akron, Ohio Chapter
The Cleveland-Akron, Ohio Chapter covers Cleveland and Akron and the surrounding suburbs. We meet every three months on a weeknight at my local Town Hall. We have 15 members and most have Wegener's. Some bring their spouses or another family member. Our group is very open and friendly, and everyone feels comfortable with everyone else. A few people bring snacks, and I provide bottled water (thanks to CVS). Since we don't see each other often, we have a lot to talk about when we're together, and I believe we all look forward to each meeting. We have had a pharmacist speak, a vasculitis nurse practitioner speak, and a Tai Chi Master Instructor came to our last meeting and gave us a free lesson! Next meeting, my chiropractor is going to speak on how to maintain general good health. I am going to ask a rheumatologist I know to speak at a meeting after that. I also know a physical therapist, an occupation therapist, and a nutritionist who may be future speakers.
CVS found me the pharmacist; most hospitals have speakers bureaus; ask you friends who they know; ask your doctor for any speaker ideas. I am honored to be instrumental in bringing together this unique group of people; the common denominator of which is vasculitis, but is turning into real friendship.
